Last year Rainbow Housing Assistance Corporation (Rainbow) launched a program to help connect the residents of the low-income communities that it serves to educational opportunities by helping fund those endeavors. This program, envisioned by Rainbow’s Board of Directors, rewards drive and determination by making the dream of specialized training or a degree a reality.
Rainbow believes that a good education is a critical component to breaking the cycle of poverty and placing residents on a realistic path to self-sufficiency. Below are just a few stories from residents that have benefited from Rainbow programming. You can help these individuals and hundreds others that strive to be their best selves by donating to the scholarship fund here.
Elementary school student Heaven Simien has benefited from Rainbow’s afterschool educational programming, helping her excel in advanced courses and earning a trip to Washington, DC. Here she tells you her story about the benefits and opportunities that participating in Rainbow programming has afforded her.
GED recipient Mildred Cockerham learned that working with Rainbow gives you more than just an education, it can restore your self confidence. Knowing that a Resident Services Coordinator was available to the residents, allowed her to pursue her dream of getting her diploma.
Tiaria Thompson has dreams of becoming a chef, opening her own bakery, and helping the youth of her community get access to wholesome and healthy foods. As a career-focused individual, Rainbow helped her attend college through its scholarship program. Tiaria plays it forward by volunteering at the Rainbow Resource Center, mentoring youth in the same way that she received guidance.
