Phoenix, AZ – Rainbow’s “Partner of the Year” Awarded to United States Golf Association
Every spring, Rainbow Housing Assistance Corporation (Rainbow) hosts affordable housing leaders from around the country to its Annual Play It Forward Charity Golf Tournament. The event gives individuals the opportunity to network and raise money to support Rainbow’s service-enriched housing mission. During the event, Rainbow bestows an award to an organization that has been tremendously valuable in serving this mission.
This year, Rainbow is proud to announce the recipient of the “Partner of the Year” award is the United States Golf Association (USGA) for its commitment to serve the underprivileged youth of the Haverstock Hills apartment complex in Houston, Texas. Working closely with Rainbow personnel in the area, Dianne Overstreet, Director of Houston Golf Association (HGA) Youth Programs, announced that the HGA had received a $10,000 grant from the USGA for youth programming. The funding will be used primarily to transport children from Haverstock Hills to Houston Golf Association’s facilities for golf instruction and events.
The first event was the Shell Houston Open, a critical game for players wanting to gain last minute entry into the Master’s the following weekend. In attendance were 35 youth the first day of the tournament which included a mini-clinic and a chance to meet professional golfers. The staff has already identified potential youth and over a dozen events now through October.

Through the Houston Golf Association programs, these will be truly formative years for these children, learning much more than just the game of golf.”[/blockquote]
Play It Forward will be held Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Rio Verde Country Club in Arizona. Golfers will be on course by 1:00 p.m. and the award ceremony, combined with a plated dinner, begins at 6:00 p.m. Arizona Golfing Association board member, Judi Lorenzen, will accept the award on behalf of the USGA.
