Rainbow Housing Expands Partnership with Related Affordable for Oaks on Lamar

AUSTIN, TEXAS – August 11, 2021 – Rainbow Housing Assistance Corporation (Rainbow), a national nonprofit organization that provides service-enriched programs for residents of rental housing communities throughout the country, has been selected by Related Affordable, one of the largest developers, financiers and preservationists of affordable and workforce housing in the United States, as the primary service provider for Oaks on Lamar in Austin, Texas.

Rainbow’s full-time Resident Services Coordinator (RSC) has started leading a range of adult courses at the property, with programs comprised of life skills, health, financial literacy, nutrition, computer training and job readiness. The RSC also offers partner referrals for individuals looking for crisis intervention and similar services. Youth has a variety of enrichment programs ranging from educational activities and teen employment opportunities to homework assistance and scholarships for college.

Located at 8071 N. Lamar Blvd., the 176-unit community has access to Rainbow’s Web-Based Resident Applied Programming (WRAP), which includes live and interactive webinars. Workshops available under WRAP include continuing education, home health and safety and personal development. Rainbow offers individuals and families the resources and connectivity they need to become self-sufficient.

“Oaks on Lamar makes an excellent addition to our portfolio of properties across the country for which we offer award-winning resident services,” said Flynann Janisse, Executive Director of Rainbow. “It is always a pleasure to partner with Related Affordable and continue our joint effort to build stable communities.”

Related Affordable has a Project-Based Section 8 contract with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), allowing rents to be based on tenant income. In addition to Rainbow’s activities, the property has a fitness center, business center, clubhouse, after-school programs, a playground and more.

Rainbow is currently providing services to 116 rental-housing communities, representing 15,810 units across the country. The nonprofit is involved in 42 housing developments within Texas and is the only third-party service provider to be a Certified Organization for Resident Engagement & Services (CORES). The certification is one of the requirements needed for property owners to qualify for Fannie Mae Healthy Housing Rewards. Partnering with Rainbow also helps owners improve their financial performance by reducing bad debt write-offs and turnover costs.
