Overcoming Life's Obstacles
“I’m so glad I didn’t let my reluctancy get in the way of asking for assistance"
John is a resident of our Montgomery Pines community in Porter, Texas. John is a transplant patient and is required to take anti-rejection medication daily. Also, John is retired and lives off his monthly social security payments. Unfortunately, most of John’s social security payments are now going to his anti-rejection medications as their cost has risen dramatically over the years.
John came into the Rainbow community center and spoke with Rainbow’s RSC, Maggie. Although John was reluctant to seek financial assistance again, Maggie assured him that was precisely what Rainbow was there for, to assist our residents when needs arose. Maggie began reaching out to her local and regional partners within the community to see what the best course of action would be. Maggie and John reviewed a few different applications, completed them, and submitted them for review.
John was awarded rental assistance, which helped him to cover his January rent. John was so excited to hear of this award and said, “I’m so glad I didn’t let my reluctancy get in the way of asking for assistance; I’m so thankful that Rainbow is here and willing to help in any way needed, without Rainbow, I’d be stressed and completely overwhelmed.” Maggie and John are working on Medicare/Medicaid applications to hopefully alleviate the costs associated with his anti-rejection medication and help with his monthly financial needs.
