On May 23, 2012, Rush Creek apartments’ residents were treated to the first of six “Cooking Matters” classes at the community. The hands-on educational program is sponsored by the Tarrant Area Food Bank and will be a weekly occurrence at the apartment community focusing on nutrition and healthy eating continuing through late June. The classes are free to attend and open to adult residents ages 18 and older.
During this introductory course, participants were shown proper handling and cleaning techniques for kitchen knives, as well as the preparation and cooking of healthy meals for the whole family. The first meal instructed residents on how to make a dinner around black bean and vegetable quesadillas. As an added bonus, everyone in attendance was provided with supplemental groceries to be taken back and used in their home.
Congratulations to the team at Rush Creek on such a successful event and our thanks to the Tarrant Area Food Bank for partnering with Rainbow, helping serve their mission to combat hunger in 13 Texas counties.
